TODAY WE WILL
*   intoductions and explanations
*   intro CS 325's "big idea"
*   info about the syllabus
*   intro to course public and Canvas sites
*   an example of a clicker question
*   a little start to databases, DBMSs, and applications...
*   prep for next class

BSSB - Behavioral and Social Sciences Building
*   often also called BSS

SQL - structured query language

*   quick intros using the course roll:
    *   preferred name
    *   hometown
    *   major
    *   is this your first semester at HSU?

*   using the course mode from the course schedule:
    *   Monday's lecture WILL be synchronous -- we meet here at this
        Zoom link at the particular time of 9:00-10:20 am

    *   There will also be ASYNCHRONOUS material,
        hopefully by Wednesday morning,
	and you watch that at a time of your choice between
	Wednesday and your lab on Friday

    *   You are divided into 2 labs on Friday --
        you do a lab exercise IN PAIRS often related to SQL, but
	    not always...

*   you will be using Oracle sqlplus (on the command line)
    on nrs-projects.humboldt.edu for this course
